PIANO  TUNING

Pianos are fine instruments that can bring a lifetime of enjoyment and beauty to your life and home. Like any fine instrument, keeping proper adjustments and yearly tunings makes for top performance and longevity. Neglecting maintenance can not only shorten the life of the piano, but it can also cause damage to the strings, which can make a tuned piano, still sound out of tune. A piano should be tuned at least once per year. A tuning will hold longer if it is done during the time of year when the heat is on daily, or the air is on daily (Heat Nov. - Mar. & Air May - Sept.). When the seasons change from heat to air or air to heat, it becomes the most noticeable that the piano is changing in sound and or touch. These changes are caused mainly from fluctuations in humidity, which causes expansion and contraction inside of the piano. Unfortunately, we have a climate that can have huge fluctuations in humidity, making our pianos go out of tune and play sluggishly. The best solution for this problem is the Piano Life Saver System by Dampp Chaser. This system has a moisture meter that constantly reads the moisture level of the piano. The system has a humidifier tank (for providing moisture) and dehumidifier (for taking away moisture) to keep the piano at a constant humidity year around, which makes the piano stay in tune longer, the touch will stay more consistent and the life of the piano will be greatly extended.
